Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Of Natural History

What can even be said?
One of the greatest bands of recent years, this album has been unavailable for a while and MUST be heard in full quality. £470 on Amazon?
A rather brilliant concept album which, from the opening track, may seem to be somewhat Luciferian, but upon listening to the bigger statement a bigger picture is revealed.
A must hear for fans of any heavy, weird or progressive music. The production is not quite as crunchy as the debut but works perfectly. The first and third albums can (and should) be bought via The End Records but who knows if this Mimicry release will be reissued?
The band is finding a kind of continuation as Free Salamander Exhibit, but this new band is minus the talents of Carla Kihlstedt.
If you don't know these guys then you are in for a treat but it is perhaps best to hear the first album before this and digest it all a piece at a time.

Pan.Thy.Monium

Pan.Thy.Monium, a wonderful find in the metal world. Starting out from darkened sludge (on …..Dawn) and progressing through many sounds as they begun to incorporate different styles and instruments, ending in an album of marvellous progressive metal with saxophone, cheesy guitar solos and all kinds of indescribable but highly enjoyable styles blended into what are each very unique death metal art pieces.
I never have words to describe the joyous brilliance of this band, but they were really something else. This is a collection of all CD releases, which includes everything except their first demo tape (also released on limited edition vinyl with Dream II).

Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst / Intrumentalyst

"I'm Doctor Octo, curl and waste torn rhinos,
Liftin' horses, throwin' cows at your fake forces"

Is that what he said? yeah, probably. Nonsensical rap genius from Kool Keith, perfect production from Dan the Automator and scratches from Qbert of Invisibl Skratch Piklz.
The original (alternative track listing) version of the album is here, along with the original instrumental CD release.

FLAC:

Sir Richard Bishop - Fingering the Devil

An album of solo acoustic guitar pieces by Sir Richard Bishop of Sun City Girls.
A very pleasant listen with fair technical flair, none of the more noisy or hypnotic elements you may expect from hearing the man's experimental electric work but this one is crisp and clearing for any time of the day or night.
Very hard to find, originally a limited edition release as part of the Latitudes series on Southern.

Gorguts - Obscura

The world is still being deprived of this monolithic album of progressive death metal. One of the very few death metal albums that can truly termed as progressive. Thanks to the unique mind and technique of guitarist Steeve Hurdle (also of Negativa, now sadly deceased) Gorguts developed a sound like nothing before them. Technical in ways that many people can't even hear it can be beyond their perception, with none of that meaningless masturbatory shred that fills much so-called progressive or technical metal. Gorguts here weave magnificent and complex spiders webs with a technical skill subtle and tasteful, yet abrasive, that is undeniable and could stand up to anything in its own light.

They still can't re-release the CD so this will be here until they do, you can buy all other Gorguts albums and support the band, as well as the beautiful EP from Negativa.

FLAC:

Terry Scott Taylor - Neverhood Songs

The long out of print soundtrack to The Neverhood, the clay animated point-and-click masterpiece from the creator of Skullmonkeys and Earthworm Jim. A wonderful mix of sounds which I would never want to lack in my collection, with standouts that will please many.

FLAC:

Otomo Yoshihide, Bill Laswell, Yoshigaki Yasuhiro - Soup

Fabulous dubby jazz with the production you would expect. A personal favourite when thinking of any of these musicians and something which should be heard by all. Great feelings and atmosphere, the almost demented free guitar playing of Yoshihide,  Laswell laying down his usual style of usual dub and funk grooves, topped and underlaid by the perfect and adventurous drumming of Yoshigaki Yasuhiro.
Even if you think you don't like all this experimental jazz stuff, you have to taste this soup!

Jodorowsky/Frangipane/Cherry - The Holy Mountain - Soundtrack

The soundtrack to what is possibly the greatest film ever made, the deeply symbolic mind expanding brilliance of the Holy Mountain.
This gives you most of the music from the film, notably missing the marvellous piece used during the darkest stretch of the climb. Still something well worth having in the collection and no CD is currently in production.
The film has been rereleased on Blu Ray and DVD and can be bought in the usual places.

FLAC:

Sir Millard Mulch - 50 Intellectually Stimulating Themes from a Cheap Amusement Park for Robots & Aliens, Vol. 1

An early release here from Sir Millard Mulch, one of the old identities of the genius that is Carl King. Super technical video game prog and scattered excerpts of speech.
An excellent musician, comedian and writer. this album is very rare now but other works (including the 3 disc esoteric comedy-prog masterpiece that is "How to Sell the Whole F#@!ing Universe to Everbody… Once and For All!" and 222 page accompanying book) can be purchased at http://www.carlkingdom.com.

FLAC:

The Deserts of Träun - Part III: The Lilac Moon

We'll start with something spectacular.
This is a project from the original drummer of Estradasphere and the recordings features various other members. A genre-hopping soundtrack to an animated film trilogy that does not yet exist (see trailer at bottom of post) progressive music, jazz, electronica, black metal and a lot more, perfectly constructed into a truly brilliant album.
This is not a well known project and the CD is out of print, so here is the FLAC for all the brains and ears that can appreciate this delicious and nutritious food.
Dave Murray is currently working on a 2CD album, re-recording all from this release with the addition of new tracks and fresh recordings of the Tholus material. You can follow and support his work here: http://www.notdavemurray.com
